Victoriana wedding gown

  • Nov. 10th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
I was in an antique shop* in Antwerp (Belgium) last Friday, and saw this GORGEOUS Victoriana wedding gown.
So I HAD to get some pictures.

I don't know what it costs, I was afraid I'd fall over backwards from hearing the price.

* Don't ask me for the name of the shop, I totally forgot.

photos be here )

Are you a fan of delicious flavor?

I am having a clearance sale for the first time! Some jewellery pieces do include steampunk elements, and many reductions in prices have been made to the jewellery pieces, if you like anything, this would be a good time to purchase it! :)

Someone commissioned a set of 8 pieces from me, with everything done to her specifications, and ended up not paying. So I have left with 8 pieces and with no one who wants them, so... Yes. Thank you!

CBS, you're made of WIN

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 7:30 PM
SO, I'm watching "Accidentally on Purpose" on CBS, and I wasn't really paying attention but my mom said the main character said, to what she thought was a disgruntled writer, "Twilight sucks, I hate it, I have nothing to say about it." (something like that). WIN! AND when the guy was leaving, he said "And I agree, twilight DOES suck." Thank you, CBS :D.

Clearance Blouse and Tea Dying

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 10:00 PM
Old Navy has several summer-weight blouses on the clearance racks that would make good Victorian or Edwardian blouses. I got this one for $10.

I wanted a more Earthy color, so I dyed my blouse with tea yesterday and now I'm changing the buttons.

If anyone is interested in tea dying, I posted the process on my blog. The vinegar in the dye bath is optional, but I didn't want to take any chances that the color might wash out.

Twilight pedophilia in REAL LIFE?????

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 6:27 PM
I received this shocking news from my old high school's forum. At first I thought it was a random thing talking about Twilight, but no. It's allegedly true. (If this isn't supposed to be here, please delete)

Translated:

Hundreds attend a wedding between a 112 year old man and a 17 year old girl in Somalia

Ahmed Muhamed Dore who already had 18 children from 5 wives announced that he will have a lot more children from his new bride, 17 year old Safia Abdulleh.
''This day God has heloed me achieve my dreams' said Dore, after the wedding in Galduduud.
The bride's family claim that Safia is ''very happy about her new husband''.
Dore said, he and his bride, who would be more suited to be his great granddaughter, came from the same village in Somalia and he had waited for so long for her to be of legal age for marriage.
''I didn't force her, but I used my experience to assure her of my love for her and we finally agreed to be wed'' said the groom.
BBC reporters in Mogadishu reported that this wedding in the city of Guriceel is recorded by Somalian historians as the first for Africans in the last century.

The original post was in Indonesian so.. I don't think it would be much help if I post the link here.

I've been killing time (read: not doing my homework) checking out KnowYourMeme.com; two of the Exploitable meme images ("'empty' images, dying to be filled with your wit & candor") inspired me to make some Twilight lulz. I've also pasted one image from the site not made by me.

Its never too early...

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 5:44 PM
Hello there
First time poster, long time stalker of steampunk fashion awesomeness.
So as the title says its never too early for... NEXT HALLOWEEN.
For some it may be too soon seeing as Halloween was 10 days ago.
But for me its never too early.
Last year early into the year I had decided that I was to be Blind Mag from Repo! the Genetic Opera this year.
And the costume was little more than a epic fail.
So on November 1st I had a brilliant idea to be a steampunk wind up doll for next year.
I'd like your input on what I can do to tweak Mag's costume.
Thanks.

Star Wars Figures

  • Nov. 9th, 2011 at 2:50 PM

When I was a little kid, I wasn't allowed Star Wars figures unless I won them shooting marbles on the playground. My father would say "that's only a nickles worth of plastic, I'm not paying $.99 for them!", and then for Christmas I'd get some generic equivalent that was hardly a step up from  armymen, roughly around some cheesy 70's space theme:

awesome star wars equivalent?

I made the best of them, normally by building massive space fortress for the lame things in my fathers very well equiped work-shop.

Needles to say, when my own kids got interested in star wars figures for this Christmas, I was quick to jump online and get them some, only to find ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS!
They want:

Six in total, but if I buy on Amazon they come to over $50 JUST IN SHIPPING COSTS (Amazon has this f'ed up way of selling you crap from a 100 different places with out telling you that you have to pay an additional shipping charge on each item!). Meanwhile, sites like Toys R Us only has a few figures, and they are all lame:

"yes honey, santa brought you your very own 'Plo Koom' doll! NO, its from star wars honey!  No, really...oh, please dont cry...he's not THAT scary!"

Ebay will be just like Amazon: if I find the right ones, I'll be buying from 10 different locations and end up spending $130 on 6 little plastic figures (and those are only worth a nickle, by gummit!)

Any of you got any insight on this very important issue?

(Off topic, and to my fathers defense, one year he bought me this, which was like the coolest toy ever:)

THIS JUST IN, HOLY CRAP!!!

This was actually back in October when I found this on Facebook. And gagged. And laughed. SO HARD.

Like....really? Really, now? That doesn't even look REMOTELY like Edward Pattison I MEAN Robert Pattison. Come onnnn, I can draw better than that. :(

I do like his luscious red lips, though.

It's beautiful, Beirut, beautiful and ugly and pock-marked and damaged and glamorous and unstable and exciting and just a bit mentally unhinged. It's the Elizabeth Taylor of the Mediterranean. Or it would be if you replaced the words "alcohol" with "Israel" and "a string of unsuitable marriages" with "15 years of civil war".

... I've spent the past 14 years telling people how great Lebanon is. How vast the mountains and sublime the food and empty the ruins and friendly the people and cool the bars. And periodically they've even believed me. And then news breaks out. There's always too much news in Lebanon.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2009/nov/08/carole-cadwalladr-beirut-lebanon

It's an article from an outsider's perspective, but ugh, what can I do? It's my perspective all the same, and some things I flinch at and others catch my heart. That's Lebanon for you, I suppose.

The time's not close enough yet, or else I would say it's excitement. But it's a build up of emotion, a tension right before the release, a readiness to be done with this place and please, please, let me exchange it for that one. It's like I'm half here, and half of me is there already. It's like listening to Majeda al Roumi ten times on repeat.
